ASTM A53 – ERW Carbon Steel Pipe

ASTM A53 is a widely used specification for electric-resistance welded (ERW) carbon steel pipe intended for mechanical and pressure applications, as well as general use in steam, water, air, and gas lines.

ERW pipe under ASTM A53 is produced by welding flat steel into a round shape and longitudinally welding the seam. This method offers a strong, consistent weld that’s ideal for structural applications and fluid transport.

Available in Grade A and Grade B, ASTM A53 ERW pipe is:

  • Manufactured in NPS 1/8” to 26” (Nominal Pipe Size)
  • Suitable for welding, bending, flanging, and forming
  • Commonly used in construction, mechanical systems, low-pressure plumbing, and infrastructure projects

Grade B is the most commonly stocked grade due to its higher strength and performance, making it the preferred choice for demanding applications.

ASTM A53 ERW pipe is also available with bare or hot-dipped galvanized finishes, offering added protection in corrosive environments.
